This is a wonderful lens and (depending on your photography style) might be the only one you actually need. So, it could save you money in the long term. Two things against it.1. The price, its very expensive; especially as it doesnt have OSS2. Its build for APS-C cameras. So, if you plan to move to full frame, dont buy it as it wont be useful on a full frame camera.

This lens is not as good a authetic, it has makred as used as it has scratches in the screen and for some reason its not fitting well with the camera it gives error time and again. Image stabilizer is not working time and again. If you are paying this much please go to best buy or buy from ClickElectronics seller not some third party seller. I like to promote small seller but then many if them are crap. Also the lens zoom gets stuck when rolled it should be smooth but it not smooth at all it gets stuck while zoom out. Also when i was trying to do a manual focus the focus keeps on struggle to do the focus i have used this same lens from best buy for testing it works fine but this is not a good as it. I dont kmow why this seller is selling smth tha lt is not working probably but please be aware of this seller.

Do not expect quality from non-IBIS devices. This lens requires the IBIS of the a6500 and a6600. It will deliver outstanding quality of detail while in use with those two model lines.I don’t understand the witchcraft that Sony performed to make this lens 2.8 all the way through from 16mm-55mmLight vignetting is present but correctable in post process. It might be the best lens for APS-C E-Mount. Just remember this lens is designed for portraits and vlogging. Do not expect much from the 55 even including the crop factor present within the cameras.

Have not used it extensively yet, but at a few family gatherings the constant f2.8 worked well for me throughout the lens range as most of our homes do not have a lot of effective natural light and some of my grandchildren hate the camera flash. When I did use the flash a few times it had to be aimed at ceiling, as length of lens with flash pointing forward seemed to create shadows in pics (possibly from lens hood).Currently using with a6000. Great investment.

I am doing many pictures of paintings and art objects in museums. For that you need to take pictures at rather wide angles, at low light (no flash allowed), get high resolution and no distortion of any kind. Up to now, I was using two prime lenses of good quality, one Sigma 16 mm and one Sony 1.8/35. The sigma lens shows quite large distortion, but it is well corrected by the camera. The problem is that I needed to change the lens from time to time, with the risk to drop them or damage the sensor of the camera. The use of a quality zoom lens 16-55 was very appealing. I got this new Sony lens and I have tested it in many different conditions. The quality of the image is fantastic even in poor lighting, you see it from the first shot with very crisp images. When you zoom the image on the computer monitor you could see all the details at high resolution. Even after cropping by a large factor, you could print quite nice pictures. At 16mm, there is some distortion. mainly volume distortion. A planar painting will appear partly folded. For a lens of this price, Sony should have issued an update of the camera firmware so the correction could be made directly by the camera. I could make the correction with a proper software, but …I hope Sony will release such an update ASAP.If the price had been significantly less and a firmware available, this lens will really deserve 5 *. Personally, I don’t regret this investment because of the quality of the product and the fact I need to take only one lens with me>

Tack sharp on my A6500, still looks big against the size of the body. Good all round lens for a Sony crop sensor body.
