Jano –
Very good and very reliable.

Very easy to use and sooooo light compared to the old one. Happy with performance so far.- used it to photograph two small weddings and still using same batteries which is good. Controls are easy to use and it is a small but tough little unit.

A bit pricey, but it was the simplest solution for my Nikon DSLR. I have used higher end flashes in the past, this is quick to focus and meter via TTL, but the recycle times can be a little slow when shooting multiples frames consecutively. Not tried the video light yet.

Having bought dozens of after-market flashes over the years, and got rid of them fairly quickly as they never seem to work as intended, I am delighted with this SB500. Which is replacing an SB400, that I really regret selling. Luckily the SB500 is certainly a worthwhile upgrade over the SB400 and would choose the SB500 over the SB400 any-day. If you want a flash that can be relied upon to work properly stick with Nikon products for your Nikon Cameras and you won’t go far wrong. Buying anything else is a false economy. Simply because it’s unlikely you’ll keep them for very long and then have to take the expensive route of replacing them with what you should have bought in the first place.Initially I was really reluctant to buy one of these because they seemed so damned expensive. It would seem that the extra circuitry and manufacturing costs involved in building a quality product, make this Nikon an expensive option. But, knowing what I do now with the benefit of hindsight, I would have happily paid the extra and bought the SB500 and saved myself the small fortune having to replace the after-market ones that didn’t work too well. One other thing that I should mention here: it clearly states on the webpage that this item is eligible for Nikon’s summer cash-back. Oh no it’s not. Not if you buy it from one of the third party sellers it’s not. You’ll soon discover it’s probably a grey import. Although the chances are the money you save will offset the money from the cash-back scheme anyway. Although you won’t be eligible for Nikon UK’s warranty, but as Nikon products seem to be reliable anyway, to my mind that’s a risk worth taking if you would prefer to save some of your hard earned: as I do. You have of course still got your statutory rights if you do get a duff one. So buying a grey import to my mind is a win win situation. But that’s me, you might disagree.

Performs exactly as advertised. Crackon’ wee bit of kit.

Good small flash that fills my need. However, although ordered from ClickElectronics in the UK and delivered the following day in the UK, it came with an Italian security label on the outside (offering a 4 year guarantee which I suspect may only be valid in Italy) and an Italian user guide inside. Not a major problem as the UK version is downloadable from the Nikon website.

First one I ordered was faulty, then, the replacement was faulty. They would go into heat protection mode after one or two flashes. The LEDs had a similar problem, in that, the level three setting would instantly send it into protection mode. Cameras tested on, were, Nikon D3300 and D500.Utterly useless. Nikon have a problem.

I great small flash unit from Nikon, well built. The LED lighting is good for close up macro work. Would have given it 5 stars had it been cheaper.
