One of the best of the non L Canon primes. Great for the “almost” wide shot on full frame and portraits. Works well with my 5DIII.

Purchased this used in “Like New” condition. I am using it on a Panasonic GX85 Micro 4 3 camera body via a Kipon Autofocus Adapter which allows the use of Canon EF lenses. The adapter allows full EXIF data. This lens focuses quickly and accurately with the adapter. I also have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ART lens which I also adapt to MFT via the Kipon Adapter, and the Canon lens focuses a lot faster than the Sigma which is a little sluggish and struggles sometimes in low light. The Canon focuses well (even better than my Olympus 17mm f1.8 and Olympus 25mm f1.8) in low light situations. The IS works very well, and it works in conjunction with my GX85’s 5-axis IBIS. In effect, it’s similar to using a native Panasonic OIS lens which gives you Dual Stabilization. On MFT, you will have a 48mm f/2.8 FF equivalent, which is very near the classic 50mm “Normal” focal length. If you use a Kipon Baveyes x0.71 Focal Reducer / Auto Adapter, you will have a 34mm f/2.0 FF equivalent which is very close to the classic 35mm FF focal length. With good light, the lens is very sharp even wide open. In low light, the IS really helps get sharp photos with static, still subjects. However, because the lens can shoot at a maximum f2.8 aperture, subject movement can be a problem when the lighting is very dim. If you use the focal reducer adapter, the resulting f2.0 maximum aperture will help this somewhat. Overall I’m very pleased with the lens. I give it only 4 stars because it struggles somewhat with subject movement in low light due to the f2.8 maximum aperture. It would have been a low light beast had they made it an f1.4 or at least f1.8.

I have been wanting a wider prime lens for awhile now and have been extremely happy with the performance and picture quality Of this lens.
