Watch out for the model reference!

Fantastic everyday lens for amateur wildlife photography. The lens is relatively big and quite heavy but the benefits outweigh this, The autofocus is very quick and accurate, and the stabilizer is fantastic. I can easily handheld at 300mm and get a pin sharp image. The build quality can’t be faulted, it feels super sturdy. It struggles a little in low light scenarios but it’s by no means bad. It’s a perfect go-to lens for everyday situations.

Edit: After realising the cost of repair – I took it apart – not for the faint hearted (obviously) – you have to know what you’re doing. Took me 2 hours and I can confirm that this lens is held together at points with sticky tape. The problem was a loose piece of plastic and a loose screw rattling around in the lens housing – See photo. This had stopped the zoom barrel moving properly and also caused the focus ring to jam.The intermittent rattling had been happening since quite early on, but this was always reported to me and I never got to witness it (the lens was bought for my daughter). So bad manufacture is the cause.Anyway – back together again now and works perfectly! I wasn’t willing to pay the huge repair cost – if my repair hadn’t worked I’d have gone for the Canon.–end of edit…I’m reducing to 1 star from 5 because I cannot now recommend this lens. After just under 4 years, with minimal and careful use, the lens fails to focus, either manually or automatically. The symptoms began with the zoom sticking intermittently and a rattling noise from within the lens. Now the focus motor can be heard struggling but no focus is achieved and the focus distance indicator fails to move. The manual focus ring does nothing. So mechanically unsound. I saw a youtube video of a strip down of this lens and I note to my horror that it is held together with sticky tape inside! Not what you’d expect from an expensive lens.Anyway, a bad experience for me with this lens means I’ll avoid Tamron in future. That name used to mean something in the lens market.

I’m new in the Reflex world, after watch too many youtube videos I bought this lens as was described “Value for Money” After the test I can confirm that, I’m super satisfied with the product and also with the speed of delivery, This was my first buying in ClickElectronics too and product and delivery 10 over 10. Thanks! I left some pictures of last night moon made it with this lens (I insist I’m Amateur in photography, maybe I don’t use all the potencial of the lens, but I’m more than satisfied with it).

After spending a few months reading reviews on various 300mm zoom lenses, I decided to go for this one…and I’m very happy I did! It’s quite heavy as it’s well built but it’s not a lens I would leave attached to my camera for everyday use. The image stabiliser is great and allows you to take hand held shots in decent light without blurring. All in all a great lens for the price.

I bought this lens as a replacement for the Tamron 70-300mm LD Macro lens that I have had now for about two years. I bought an Alpha 850 a few months ago (full frame) and wanted better glass to make the most of it’s potential without being able to afford one of the Sony G series lenses. After reading reviews on this site and others I decided to purchase this lens. The first thing you notice when you open the box is the size and weight of the thing. It is solid and well made. The zoom and focus rings have good grips on them and there is no play on either ring. They are also impressively smooth in operation. On the side of the lens there is an AF/MF switch which functions fine and you will see from the picture I have added that there is no vibration control logo or switch on this version as it doesn’t need it. The USD motor this lens is fitted with is very quiet and fast. My old Tamron relied on the body’s motor and was quite slow and noisy in operation. The AF metering is fast and accurate and works in all but the poorest of light conditions. One thing to be aware of on the subject of focus is that the manual focus ring is still movable even when the auto focus is in use and if you touch it it will move your focus off. It is not locked off when the AF switch is used so it is something to be aware of when taking a shot. I don’t find it a problem though myself. The hood provided with this lens is deep and does a good job of blocking out stray light. As it is an internal focusing lens it is of the petal variety as it doesn’t rotate of course. The one problem with the hood is that it is difficult to replace the lens cap on after you have taken a shot. Also, if you wanted to put a filter on or rotate a polariser that would also require you to take it off first.I have found the image quality to be good on my full frame camera with only a small amount of vignetting at the the wide open end of the scale. Stopping down soon clears it away and the images are crisp and colourful as you would hope. I also find that CA is well controlled even in pretty harsh conditions.I feel this is an excellent zoom lens for the money although I can’t work out why the Sony version is about £20 more on average (from multiple suppliers) than the Canon and Nikon versions which both have the VC IS system on. Surely it is cheaper to produce the lens without the VC function? Anyway, it is a small thing which you will forget when you start using this lens as it is so good.Worth every penny.

I bought this lens for my Canon 450D. I have recently converted onto a DSLR camera from a superzoom Panasonic.. I am a keen amateur wildlife photographer and i missed being able to get close enough to the animals. In an ideal world I would buy a large telescopic prime lens, however, i was buying on budget at the time and those more expensive lenses were not an option.I use this lens mainly as a modified prime lens, keeping it at its huge 300mm focal length, however, I am glad that the lens has the flexibility to alter the focal length in needs be. It means that you don’t have to carry round loads of lenses and therefore keeps your set up light and all you have to do is grab one lens. The lens is not too heavy. It is good build quality. The auto-focus and image stabiliser motor do make a bit of noise compared to the more expensive lenses but this does not decrease the effectiveness of the lens. The zoom ring does turn in the opposite direction to most canon lenses which i am used to but this is easy to get used to. The 5.6 aperture at 300mm is adequate enough for most wildlife photography however it would be nice to have at least one more f stop number for lower light conditions.Admittedly, a long prime lens is the most ideal lens for wildlife photography but if you have a budget or you are new to DSLR photography, the versatility of this lens, its price and good picture quality makes this lens ideal.

I bought this lens to replace a Nikon 70-200 that i destroyed the other day out and about.I checked all the usual reviews and Im not going to go into all of that, you can find plenty of vids on You Tube. What i am going to tell you is that this is worth every penny of the cost. Its well built, the focus ring is smooth and the zoom feels just right to use.Its quite a heavy lens but not anything that will cause problems. The thing that has surprised me the most is also the thing that made me think it was broke when I first used it.When its locked focus you get a strange, almost like a grinding noise. At first i though oh god this thing sounds broke. What it is, is the best image stabilisation if used on any lens. It locks on to the image for around 3 seconds and is actually quite hard to shake it off. It states its around 5 stops and i must admit its got to be close. The image Ive posted on here of the boat under the light was at 1/6 of a second at iso400 F4 and was taken at almost total darkness HANDHELD!I took a shot of the castle from across the water at about 2 miles away. Again it was in total darkness at a 15 second exposure.Auto focus is quick, it rarely has to hunt even in -4 to -5 evLike i said the VC is a bit of a surprise with the noise but its not anything that gets in your way and not something that others would notice. Ive not noticed any lens creep yet and i was carrying it round hand held for about 3 hours today.Honestly if youre in the market for a telephoto lens then you could do a LOT worse than this and for the money i dont think you will find anything better.

Recomendable. El servicio de ClickElectronics de 10, como siempre.

This is a great lens. For thos who haven’t purchased a telephoto of this length, be prepared for the weight. I’m not crazy about the smaller focus ring as it’s located where my fingers think the regular focus ring should be. That’s a design flaw but the only quibble I could make. Took some time to arrive but it performs wonderfully. Will purchase from this seller again.
