It does the work well for its price. Good for family and fun pictures. Not for professional-level image quality. If you are looking to print large images then don’t go with this lens. I would recommend it to all who want to get into zoom lens. A little heavier but fits well and steady on my Nikon D5200.

I returned it because it is virtually unusable at F4.5 and 5.3 at 70-100mm. Sharpness is very poor. This means it is only usable on bright sunny days.On the Pro side, this lens had the best Vibration Control I have ever seen. Even compared to $5000 Nikon’s.

The image quality and build quality on this lens are fantastic to say the least. The price is just right for a zoom range of this size, and the VC is top notch, I prefer it over my nikon VR II to be honest… This is an FX lens so there’s no noticeable vignetting in my experience. Highly recommended lens. I’ve been using it on my Nikon D7100, the AF is fast and quiet, the VC is a little noisy, but only a little. Impressive lens. The attached image was taken at 70mm with 3 extension tubes, it’s the only shot I have readily available as of this review. It does a good enough job showing the image quality.

This is an extremely rewarding lens. I believe the camera onto which it is attached has much to do with that, however.I use it on a D7500 Nikon camera and the combination is nothing short of outstanding. The lens is very sharp when held properly. It is smooth in operation and handles comfortably and quickly. The vibration control is very exceptional, which does not negate proper steadiness on the part of the photographer. It allows for long shots that would not be achievable with a lesser lens. Again, steadiness on the photographer’s part is always a major factor. Nevertheless, extreme picture sharpness can be achieved with handheld shots using this lens. Autofocus is very good.Always know your camera well to make sure you use any features that can aid steadiness and picture quality.Furthermore, sit and play with the lens camera combination to achieve the results of which both are capable.Technical issues by technicians are not field trials. They are laboratory trials, and as such are not applicable in the real world except under extreme conditions, at which point all cameras have difficulties. This is a relatively sturdy, well built lens that will usually do what you want to do within it’s range and design parameters. I have had a lot of cameras and lenses in my life and this and some obscure 28mm lenses that are so sharp you could cut yourself provide huge bang for the proverbial buck, almost as if they came out of nowhere just for your indulgence. You won’t be likely to get many bargains in this world the likes of this Tamron SP 70 – 300mm VC F4 – 5.6 USD zoom lens so if it’s what you need, buy it after checking compatability. Tamron provides an online lens/camera compatability list. Great lens!

I bought this product without knowing that Tamron released 2 different models with the exact same name within 10 years time difference. The first one released in 2010 (gold ring on the picture) is the A005. The newest model (silver ring), the A030, was released more recently. The characteristics are quite similar for both models. However I found out that the lense I bought (A005) is a bit hard to rotate which is a bit troublesome for the video due to the lack of smoothness while zooming. According to a Tamron seller, this is due to the age of the device and probably the storage conditions. As a consequence, the grease of the mechanism has become harder along the time. My advice: check the exact model reference as it could make a big difference!

Having read all the reviews, I ordered this Tamron over the Canon alternative due to budget constraints. Having taken around 30 photo’s at differing aperture / zoom settings, I’m pleased to say the picture quality is really good; not had any chromatic aberration or vignetting. The Vibration Control is really good. I use singe point focusing, and it behaves very well. One concern from the reviews that I had was whether the vibration control would be noisy, but this isn’t an issue at all.The only negative issue (not to do with the lens) is that ClickElectronics shipped it in the manufacturer’s box instead of packing it in an ClickElectronics box.

Looking for a non camera brand lens as good as branded lenses? Look no further.

Good for price

Good things first: excellent, useful zoom range (ideal for garden birds, for example, which is why I bought it);Images so far seem sharp throughout;Lovely background blur at 300mm;VC REALLY works – once it grabs, it doesn’t let go. In favourable conditions i can shoot hand-held at 300mm as slow as 1/20th of a second;Distinctive Tamron colours and image quality – a big pro for me.Now for the downsides: this lens is LOUD in operation. The VC really lets you know it’s locked on and then let go again, and whirrs constantly when operating;the autofocus mechanism is also far from silent, demonstrating a distinct robotic, motorised whirr when changing from close to distant focus;Autofocus isn’t the swiftest;Zoom ring is stiff and jerky at certain portions (between about 150-250mm);It is cumbersome. It looks and feels daft on my piddly Canon 700D.I have yet to decide whether my noise problems are the norm for this lens and/or whether i can put up with them, or if i’ve got a bad copy and need to replace it. Other than its loudness, i do really like this lens.
