Very pleased with the results from this – nice and sharp – and the macro feature is great

I find this lens very sharp and reliable to take shots with slow shutter thanks to the OSS. The bokeh for macro is superb and the build is solid. My understanding is that it’s made from aluminium so in case you crash it, it will leave a dent. What I don’t like about it, is the slow auto-focus. Even if I adapt it from the function to work for portraits, it’s slow and unreliable compared to my other lenses (tamron 28-75, sony 85 1.4, sony 35 1.4). It’s decent but not great for professional use.It thought you can get easier macro photos with this lens as it’s design for it but it’s not that simple. If you already have a portrat lens and add a macro extension tube ( which is quite cheap), then you can transform your lens into a macro one. The only caveat is that you need to have over 70mm so the lens is not at 1 cm of the subject. So in conclusion, if you are an occasional photographer this is great for portraits and macro shots. But not for weddings in my opinion.P.S. Best price I saw it was

I’m a professional portrait photographer. My main focus is to get the best sharpness photo and natural skin tone. I had some great portrait lenses from sony like the 35mm 1.8 and the 85mm 1.8 and I wasn’t sure if this lens will be any difference or will add any value to my photography! But from the amount of good reviews about this lens I decided to buy it and see if will add any value into my output and YES this lens is Amazing sharp and I love the skin details coming out of it. Also it takes me to a different wounderful world of Macro photography its my new hobby now that I have just started! Regarding the build quality and features on this lens absolutely fantastic and I don’t need to go in details because these all mentioned by everyone has this lens. If you want to see some of my portrait photoshoot with this lens you can find me on Instagram @faceandlens

After using this lens for a few months, I feel I can write an informed review for this lens. It’s quite large (though, not the largest lens) but you can walk around with it attached. The top of the lens has a the focusing ring, which is easy to use. You can pull this down slightly to switch into manual focus and push it back up to return to camera controlled focus really quickly. Whilst a nice feature, it is relatively easy to unintentionally shift the ring into manual focus. Causing the camera to be in manual focus mode, which prevents auto focus from working (obviously) it can be quite confusing sometimes until you realise why your camera is not working. This is more user error than a fault of the lens, but worth keeping in mind during use.In terms of auto-focus, I find the lens hunts around far more than my other lenses. It auto-focuses fine but is no-where near as snappy as my other lenses. I would say auto-focus is disappointing (to me) but that isn’t really the reason you buy this lens. Switching between auto-focus and manual focus is super quick and simple however using the focus ring.Image quality is stunningly sharp however, I have attached some photo’s I have taken with this lens. Indeed the first picture I tested it with contained far more detail than I was used to seeing. It also works fantastically for macro, the almost medium telephoto length and the ability to get close give great scaling of the subject, coupled with the lens sharpness and the ability to easily switch into manual focus make macro work easy to work with.Overall, the only fault I have with this lens is the sluggish auto-focus and (through my own fault) sometimes unknowingly switching to manual focus. As I use it more often, the manual focus switch becomes less of an issue as it becomes the first thing I check when the camera start behaving strangely. But you cannot fault the image quality at all.

Incredible 90mm Full frame Sony G Lens. F2.8 Macro. I use Zeiss and Sony Lenses E Mount. Having used Zeiss on a Haselblad H Series. These Sony Lenses are definitively in the same league for there class. Used on a full frame Sensor this Prime lens is worth every penny.I have tended to use Prime lenses rather than Zoom but the Sony GM 24-70 will be my next lens as the optical quality is unrivalled .This 90 mm lens on the Sony Alpha A7Rii its magnificent for stills or motion. i have been in the business for 30 years and there only used to be two options. This is Disruptive technology.
Mr Michael Gilbert –
Ive only had this for a few hours but so far am loving it. This was my first attempt at exploring macro photography – luckily it was snowing when the package came and I went onto my back porch and tried to shoot snowflakes.Great quality build, easy to use manually with a tripod, sharp, and excellent images. The image attached is cropped at over 600% of the full photo.
Mr. R. D. Collins –

If macro is your thing and you have Sony E mount full frame camera the this lens is a must.First things first. It ain’t light, but that’s a good thing as t feels super stable when using it hand held.Optical stabilisation is built in, and together with the in-body stabilisation chances are you will get that shot. The focus limiter switch is a godsend when working close hope as it stops the lens from hunting for focus.Picture quality is really something else. The attached image was taken handheld 1/200sec f8 iso 100And this is a crop of the full size image.I think that life with this lens s going to be amazing.
