Obviously you can’t use a wide-angle lens for everything, but this lens is super versatile and fun. I am amazed at how close you can get to an object and still get the lens to focus. Focus is fast and precise, vignetting is not bad as far as I am concerned, in fact, it seems awesome even at 1.8. Image clarity is very good. The aperture ring works great with a switch to turn on and off the detent. No stabilization on this lens, but with camera stabilization, do you really need it?A few days later, adding to this. I really like the different perspectives you get from this lens. It amazes me how close I have to get to what I am shooting to get it proportion. Because I have been shooting some large outdoor sculptures lately, it has become more of an up-close and personal type of lens. It should be great for real estate, abstract stuff, scenery and landscapes as you can get so much of what you are shooting in lens, while still being reasonably close. As a side note, I just checked and the lens correction file is already loaded in Lightroom for this lens. It was not showing in Photoshop yet, I am guessing they will add it in an update very soon though.

So I went with this lens as I like to stick to native glass. I use this on my a7Rii and do primarily landscape and city shots. The examples I provided were for some night shots as my main reason for this lens, was to be able to do astrophotography. So far, the aesthetic of the lens is supreme; I would say its comparable to the GM lenses, with a fraction of the cost. I shoot for hobby and not professionally, so GM lens are bit out of my budget, but this 20mm is a perfect wide angle focus length and at f1.8. I now have a great lens to go after low-light scenarios that is very sharp. This was perfect for my arsenal of 24-105, 55 Zeiss, and now the 20mm f1.8. I wish Sony had glass that was this supreme for a lower price, however, this is a good compromise stepping into their full frame market. I am very happy and look forward to shooting more golden hour and blue hour shots!

Shortly after I got mine I had a problem with it and had to send it to Sony for repair. But that’s not the fault of the seller, or even of Sony. These things happen some times. Maybe it was dropped by the courier who delivered it? Who knows.

All the rave reviews are justified. It’s expensive but it’s a special lens.I haven’t taken it of f/1.8 yet and don’t want to. Only thing is now is my legacy 20mm primes which I have been so fond of have taken a back seat. I didn’t think it would happen. But this lens has enough personality to keep on the camera most of the time. It’s a focal length that is similar to the iPhone so it’s not way out there like you might think.

The image quality is astonishing, and the low light capability with my A7 iii is even more fantastic than you would expect from a Sony G lens.. This lens is very light and perfect for walking about. I love the aperture ring which allows the depth of field and hence the background blur ( bokeh) to be changed very easily. There is a little switch to make the aperture ring clicker to be silent – the silent option is brilliant for changing the depth of field whilst taking video.I also love the resolution – you can crop in a long way and still retain lots and lots of detail.Very happy with this lens, which is fantastic for landscapes, walking around town, and for environmental portraits.

Absolutely love this lens, the only negative is its lack of stabilisation. I don’t notice any distortion and the images are sharp.
