Having read the many recommendations on here I decided to buy this lens,it only arrived today and although I have only been using it for 4 hours I can see that it’s a quality product and takes amazing photographs,I’m looking forward to learning new techniques and pushing the boundaries of my photography

Being a pixel peeper geek (as image sharpness is everything) I’ve found that from the centre outwards to about a millimetre to the edge of the photo the lens is seriously sharp and as always a slight cropping in photoshop is a must with most lenses anyway. The optical stabiliser on full setting (2) is just as good as being on a tripod, suppose that depends on how steady your hold is as well but none the less the stabiliser does its job well. Build quality is on par with Nikon and around HALF the price. For any photographer other than a professional I’d definitely recommend this gorgeous third party macro lens and save yourself a fair bit of money.

My first time buying a macro lens. After reading the good reviews and at half the price of the Nikon 105mm I thought I’d give it a go. My first impression, it’s heavy, really heavy. Making my lightweight camera body feel really unbalanced. It’s heavier than my 70-300 zoom (which is of similar size). I tried using this indoors, but even with a strong light source couldn’t get a decent exposure, so would likely need a lens mounted flash (which I don’t have). But wanted to use this 100% outdoors anyway. It’s best if you restrict the focus length (I chose 1-1.5 feet), let it focus 95-100% then gently move the camera back and forwards till the subjects in focus. Oh and switch the stabiliser to 1. The hood blocked a bit too much light even on a sunny day. The images attached are my first macro attempt in the first 24 hours. So judge for yourself what this lens could be capable of given some practice. It’s definitely staying in my collection.

This lens is quite large and heavy, however, it takes excellent pictures. Macro and short range is excellent, but it also works very well as a medium range telephoto. Medium distance objects also focus perfectly, which is one reason this is good for portraits and taking pictures of plants and animals. Automatic focus works well and quickly. The fixed focal length seems to give about the same perspective as the human eye, so is a unique magnification distance.

I love this lens. Is now my favourite. Image quality is superb. Although this is f2.8, when shooting close up you are unable to maintain f2.8 as the lens will select the largest appropriate aperture otherwise you can use it at f2.8 during normal usage. Great for portraits too.The only gripe is I am unable to register for the extended warranty as the bar codes are not recognised although on the Sigma website they will honor the warranty with lenses bought and supplied directly from ClickElectronics and not 3rd party sellers. I have emailed Sigma regarding this and waiting for a response.I strongly recommend this lens as for the money, you will not find any better.Update on warranty:Still blown away by this lens but…..Sigma responded with regarding the extended warranty.(From Sigma UK)Thank you for your email.I have checked the serial number 15909298 and unfortunately this is not a lens that Sigma Imaging (UK) have imported so we are unable to offer the extended warranty.I am also unaware of a products barcode that ends in 695253.I can only suggest you contact ClickElectronics and request an official UK import from Sigma UK if you wish to benefit from the extra 2 years warranty. To sum up: Whether this was only my lens ClickElectronics supplied as a non UK import or they might be bringing them in from the EU. If this is the case you will still get the Sigma 1 year warranty but not the UK extended 3 year warranty.I feel ClickElectronics should stress this on their listing.

This is a serious bit of kit it’s just stunning the only bad point is that it’s so heavy this is a lens for Charles atlas !!!.Now I’ve got the bad point out of the way I took the lens and my Nikon d5600 out in the midday sticking it into hedges to get bug shots I will admit I had to bump the iso up to 800 the resulting shots are stunning my next purchase will be a ring flash then the iso can be lowered I’m going to have a lot of fun with this lens recommended 10/10 – Right this bit is after having the lens for a couple of months I want to scream it out this lens is EXCELLENT see the attached image which i’m over the moon with if you want to get into macro certainly give this lens some serious attention…
