The T7 is the go to drive for SSD expansion for photo and video editing. 917 read / 845 write speed as tested with thunderbolt on my MacBook Pro. The speeds are as expected as it throttles a little on sustained transfer with big video files. The 1050 read/write spec speeds quoted are for smaller files.Small. Light. Gets a little warm but not to warm. Only used for a few days but adding to my T5 and T3 drives it’s a great product.

Purchased to run Windows 10 via Parallels on a 2018 Mac mini as my existing USB 3 SATA setup was causing issues with performance (mainly interference with the Bluetooth system). USB-C interface and the almost 2x faster drive has resolved all problems completely. Works a dream. Drffo worth the money. Tiny device, fits own the palm of your hand so very portable of this is appealing to you.

Hi,Bought this in prep for a PS5 to bring my PS4 library to it.But first – Connected this up to my PS4 (Standard and a Pro) and it was so easy to use…just a few clicks on the PS4 menus and it was ready to use and was able to transfer the games from the internal to this drive. The transfer speed is held up by the PS4 itself so I won’t claim it was fast or slow…it was ok and better than a HDD but I didn’t really time it.The main thing I would like to highlight is speed of loading up a game.1) Battlefield V on internal took 50 seconds and with it on the SSD it took 32 seconds (not too bad)2) Just cause on internal took 30 seconds and with it on the SSD it took 24 seconds (not really mind blowing)So hopefully if my PS5 turns up I will update this review to give an update on how this SSD works on it.But so far thumbs up.

The drive seems to perform as expected. However, having had read reports of fake drives I decided to check with Samsung magician. The drive is not detectable by the software and the firmware shows as ‘0’. I can see that the drive had previously been opened and I am concerned about the authenticity of this product. I have contacted Samsung for advice.

A great little portable external drive. Fast, and compatible with hardware from laptops and desktops to phones, tablets and even the latest game consoles (I tested this with the front USB C port on PS5). Very handy for home or professional use. I have both the 500GB and 1TB models and they deliver great performance.Handy Tip: The only drawback to the small size is that these drives can tend to “skate” about on a smooth surface, something easily remedied with the application of some stick-on rubber feet. I tend to buy those to use with small electronic devices, and they help prevent those heart-stopping moments when you accidentally knock something off your desk to the floor.

(Im not sure why the review system is asking me to review things like “warmth” and “thickness”. Perhaps this listing has been repurposed to farm reviews from a blanket). The Samsung T7 is the first SSD I’ve bought for external use (I’ve used internal ones for many years).I got this one too install PS4 games on PS5 because storage is limited and an HDD is slow.PS5 had 10Gb USB ports (all except the type-Ac on the front which is for charging and is USB2) so a good, fast SSD is worth while. My benchmark game for load times is The Outer Worlds; not because it’s a great game, but because the load times made it unplayable on PS4.On PS4, load times for this game averaged about 50-60 seconds. On this external drive , on PS5 they averaged about 20 seconds.Working out a rough write speed by copying Destiny 2 from PS5 internal to this T7 (1TB) I calculated a write speed of 360MB/s.This is great lower than the advertised speed, but it’s quite likely due to quirks of the PS5 and the files being copied rather than the drive. All in all, I’ve had this drive plugged into the back of the PS5 for nearly a month now, all my games I have been playing from it with good to great loading times and no issues.I paid £109 on sale for the 1TB, red coloured drive in Nov 2020, this was a good price at the time.

Very disappointed to find that this T7 ssd was not recognised by Mac using the supplied USB-C cable but was recognised by the USB-A. Using the same USB-C a Samsung T5 and a Sandinista Extreme ssd were recognised so not the cable. Samsung software installed and made no difference, T7 just not recognised using USB-C ports, item returned for refund as I’m not chancing a replacement that might have same problem. Disappointed that Samsung website didn’t offer any solution.
