So I purchased this webcam for better quality streaming while working from home. I’ve had it for over a month and here is what I can tell you:First off, it’s a very good quality camera. I have a very good computer which a good internal camera and the Brio 4K blows it out of the water. If you use the camera in a regular setting, see my picture as reference, it’s still looks better and brighter. If you add some cheap lights, like the ring light and download Logitech G Hub, it will make a massive difference. This Brio 4K loves lighting and will give you a super sharp image so invest 30$ for those lights, you’ll be glad you did.

One of the best webcam you can buy. Make sure you install the latest firmware which solves issues with Windows Hello Face recognition.

How could Overall rating be 5**, but product gets 4** for each of the three features?

First off, there is no other webcam available to me that I could compare it to, so this is a biased opinion.Secondly, it does a very decent job at serving its main purpose: Logging into a modern Windows 10 desktop PC via Windows Hello facial recognition. I think whenever Hello doesn’t work efficiently it’s the fault of Windows 10 (amongst this OS’ *many* other shortcomings!).Re: the 3 features: It does a good enough job at auto-focussing, I think, again with no other webcam available to compare it to. However, there is a bit of lag even on a machine with 8GB RAM and an 8700T CPU. (VERY IMPORTANT: Note the “T” in the CPU. Maybe if it was the higher-end 8700MHz CPU there wouldn’t be any lag. I just don’t know.)The Picture quality is decent too, but I find it a bit grainy when using software like OBS.As I am writing this, I changed the Low light rating to 5**, as I think it does an excellent job in medium to low lighting. The mic’s quite good on it too. I think unless you’re doing really high-end computing (perhaps professional YouTubing), this webcam’s mic would serve you very well.I’ve only had a month to intermittently test it, but I *can* say this: Whether you’re using Logitech’s own Capture software or something like OBS for recording or streaming, you *will* tax your system. On the desktop PC described, CPU usage went up to over 30% – with its fan going like a jet engine’s! The PC’s built-in Intel UHD630 goes to 98.5% and up! I’ll definitely have to look into what can be tuned on the PC, e.g., graphics RAM allocation (a BIOS thing), etc., to make this webcam work more smoothly. The PC is new too so there could be some tweaking to be done to make things more harmonious. Any proven suggestions that worked for you would be welcome.Oh, and one more thing: If you’ll be using this for Hello, USE LOGITECH’S LATEST DRIVERS otherwise you’ll be *extremely frustrated* as to why the feature isn’t working out of the box! That was a lot to say, and it’s only scratching the surface, but it gets the main points across I think.

If you need 1080p@60fps, have Windows 10, proper lighting (for EVERYTHING the lens can see), don’t need chroma cam customization and don’t need to manually adjust specific settings to your liking, then sure… spend the $200-$300. You can use this cam on Windows 7 but will be limited to 1080p@30fps or [email protected]’ve had image corruption issues where I had to disable, re-enable the cam but that is most likely just a USB bandwidth issue and it worked fine once I used another port hub.If you’ve owned the C920 or any older cams, be prepared to have MUCH less control over image quality and lighting. This webcam comes with RightLight3 which can’t be disabled. If you have proper lighting for your face/body but the lighting for the rest of the room is lacking, the cam will make your face unreasonably bright and add some light noise to your whole image. I had to turn DOWN my lighting to make my image more reasonable. The noise is still there but at least my face isn’t super bright. This is not an issue for the C920.Moving my head slightly forward or backwards where the screen will change the lighting on my face EVER so slightly will cause the webcam to auto-adjust the lighting of the whole image very drastically. It almost looks like a lightning show. So don’t move too much if your whole cam view isn’t super-evenly well lit. I put away my 2 studio lights to reduce the overwhelming light while gaming and streaming since I put away my green screen and bought a big light ring instead. I have to put the light on the near-lowest setting or else my face is just a white spot.I wanted to use the background blur feature from “chroma cam” cause it was a listed feature (The C922 can do it) but apparently the Brio dropped support for it. You can use the auto-background removal in OBS but you won’t be able to change any settings and it’s pretty bad unless the whole image is completely well lit. The C922 will let you choose many settings though and has proper chroma cam support. There is a setting that is on by default and is automatically set back on every time you reboot. It is called “Low light compensation”. You probably want to disable this because you will either be well lit and not need it, or be partially well lit and your cam will drop to 5 fps at times. This setting cannot be disabled from the logitech webcam software. You’ll have to access the webcam settings through third-party software (OBS) or an older version of the logitech webcam software. Make sure you only have 1 cam installed or you won’t be able to access the Brio’s settings. I was using 2 cams and the older software could only see my old cam until I uninstalled it completely. If you want to change the setting, just use OBS, add a video capture device source, select brio and then click properties > Change video settings on the source and it will popup some extra settings for your webcam. A lot of the options you won’t want to touch as when you manually move them, none of the values on the slider will actually be close to what the “auto” option does.Buy something else. This cam isn’t worth it even if you need the 4k or 1080p@60fps. I decided to go for a 720p@60fps webcam instead that has better support and more control over quality.

For some background on who I am as a reviewer, I worked for Xbox for 16 years as a 3D graphics developer (GPU expert), I worked on the Microsoft Kinect (which is a RGB + IR depth camera), and the Microsoft Hololens.I’m disappointed in this product, and feel like a victim of the old “bait and switch”. This camera boasts background removal, and even clearly has extra sensors that you would think means this happens in hardware. Nope. It requires you to download ChromaCam software that does the background removal on your PC. How that works is that the software creates a virtual camera, which reads the camera stream, does it’s background removal algorithm (taxing your system, and introducing lag), and then outputs as a new camera. Only certain apps appear to be supported, in which they somehow know to look for the software version of the camera. For example, it doesn’t work with the built-in Camera app for Windows 10. (But it does work for Xsplit and OBS, which is what most people want.)Problem #1: The background removal doesn’t very good. It seems to struggle with hair, so you end up looking bald in spots, cropping off inches of your head. I tried all kinds of foreground and background lighting. (Which really shouldn’t matter to the IR depth technology.) At times, all parts of my skin would disappear (no arms, no neck or head) and I looked like an empty shirt. It’s really THAT bad.Problem #2: The background removal really taxes your system. I got this for my son’s computer which is mid-range ($800). The camera works better on my high-end ($2000) PC.Problem #3: The lag is a horrendous. A deal-breaker. On my son’s computer, just a simple test saying a quick, “Wow!”, you can hear my exclamation, and then 1/2 second later my mouth moves.Problem #4: There are no software settings to tweak the above. No sensitivity to the background removal. No way to maybe say, record in 1280×720 (or even 640×480) instead of 4K so that there’s less processing to do and thereby reducing lag. The Logitech settings and the ChromaCam settings are really dumbed down to about nothing.Problem #5: The ChromaCam software costs $30, or else you get a watermark. This is the least of my concerns. The only good thing about this camera is the 4K quality when not using background removal. But, as my title says, I’m guessing most people want this to do background removal so they can overlay themselves in the corner while streaming game. In that case, your image is only maybe 300×200 pixels, so the 4K is moot. It’s the depth part of the camera that would normally justify the $170+ price. And that it simply is too low quality to be useful, I do not recommend this camera.Even if you have a beefy system that can handle the software, and have a better experience than I, the reviews for the C922x Pro Stream are the same, and that camera is half the price. (But since it also requires ChromaCam, good luck!)As a footnote, I spent hours fiddling with this thing and a big red flag was that almost all the content, and reviews, and tips for this camera online are over a year old. It’s not mid-2018 technology. It’s early 2017 technology.
