If I could send this back I would. After months of playing with settings, updating the Garmin Express app, changing Sat Nav settings, and everything I possibly could change, its NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE as a trail running or a fitness watch at all.The Navigation accuracy is utterly useless and I’m going as far as saying its dangerous. For example (See my attached picture) I knew I had issues with it so I updated it and took it on a long hike. The moment you are covered even by the lightest tree cover it does not pick you up. You can see the difference between A (Where I was following the white dotted lines under light tree cover) and B where I was in the open. Anything, even a bush or a low building kills the navigation accuracy. On other walks I thought I would use the inbuilt route tracker and map and again, wildly inaccurate. Luckily I had a compass and an OSD Map otherwise I would have got completely lost. One key thing is that if you’re a keen runner, because it can’t detect you under the lightest cover, you will not see the right feed back ref your speed , pace and distance. For example , I’m a steady Eddy 7:30min a mile runner and can keep that up for an hour or more. The watch agree’s until I hit bushes or tree lined avenues and suddenly I’m at a total stand still or a 14:00min mile runner. Take it into a forest and basically I may as well not have it on.The danger is if you rely on the speed and pace fields , for actual training, you may over train. When I first got it I was shocked and no matter how hard I ran, I could not manage a 55min 10K, and I’m comfortable at 48min 10K. So I would push and push and push my body and still not break 55mins, took a different route with less tree’s , and ran 46:30 10K. But, overworking my body did cause some injuries and I just wished I listened to my instinct and not used this Garmin. If you want to use the built in maps. Again, the accuracy of the navigation is so poor you’re gonna cause yourself some harm. Plus it not being a touch screen just makes it hard, you have to press one button to activate scroll up/down, and then another to switch to Left/right scroll and then again to zoon in zoom out. For this money, I would have expected a touch screen. Totally my fault though, I knew it was not touch, but I though Garmin, for the money, would have made a better user interface. All this combined with the completely useless functions such as a barometer, a VOX2 Max predicter which is awful. A host of really pointless features you will never use. My Partner has a cheaper garmin that was £150, does the same, and has the same poor navigation and pointless features. Buy something from Garmin sub £150.
